Common Risks Of Jet Ski Operation
Some newsworthy examples of serious Jet Ski accidents include:
The Associated Press reported in 2007 that a 7-year-old American boy received a fatal head injury in a Jet Ski accident that occurred “during an excursion from a cruise ship in the Bahamas.” The boy and his mother were riding a Jet Ski when they lost control of the vessel. Authorities investigated the possibility that the
boating accident
was caused by a nearby family member who also was on a Jet Ski.
In 2007, a 21-year-old man died after being struck by a Jet Ski that was being driven by an 11-year-old boy who was participating in a water race event. The victim was swimming at the time of the accident and an autopsy revealed that a head injury was the primary cause of death. The victim’s family filed a lawsuit against the driver of the Jet Ski, the racing event coordinators and others associated with the event.
A serious Jet Ski accident in 2005 that left a young blind man with serious facial injuries resulted in small fines for a negligent Jet Ski driver and a boat operator. The victim was riding on an inner tube that was being towed by a boat, when a speeding Jet Ski operator cut into the boat’s wake and the tail of the Jet Ski struck the victim in the face. The mother of the victim did not file a lawsuit against the operator of the Jet Ski because he did not have insurance, and she felt she would not receive a settlement. Some of the victim’s medical expenses were not reconciled through his own insurance.
If you or a member of your family have been the victim of a Jet Ski accident caused by a careless or inexperienced Jet Ski operator, contact an trained boat accident attorney.
